A versatile musician acknowledged for his passionate and commanding leadership from the podium, the exciting young American conductor Andrew Bisantz is quickly building an impressive roster of credits at leading national orchestras and opera companies.
Mr. Bisantz has recently been named Guest Music Director of Eugene Opera. For their 2008-09 season, he will conduct their productions of Offenbach’s OrphÈe aux Enfers and Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
Mr. Bisantz is currently Resident Conductor of Florida Grand Opera in Miami, where he will conduct performances of Puccini’s La bohËme this season. He made his mainstage debut there in the 2005-06 season, conducting Bizet’s Carmen. This past season, he returned as the 2006-07 Henry C. Clark Conductor to conduct performances of Puccini’s Manon Lescaut. He has also served Music Director of FGO’s touring productions of Mozart’s CosÏ fan tutte, Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti and Ravel’s L’heure espagnole. Mr. Bisantz also acts as a coach for the renowned Florida Grand Opera Young Artist program.
In 2005, Mr. Bisantz conducted Massenet’s Le Portrait de Manon in a new production at Glimmerglass Opera to great critical acclaim. The production was broadcast nationally on NPR’s World of Opera. He made his Glimmerglass debut in 2004, conducting their production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Patience. Guest engagements include Adamo’s Little Women and Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites at Northwestern University, Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Notre Dame University, performances with the Virginia Symphony, Western New York Chamber Orchestra, and frequent appearances with the Rochester Philharmonic. For two seasons, he served as Apprentice Conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. During his tenure in Buffalo, he conducted a wide range of programs, including critically acclaimed performances of Rhapsody in Blue as both soloist and conductor.
Mr. Bisantz was on the faculty of Florida International University for three years, where he performed with regularly with the FIU Symphony as well as having served as Music Director of the FIU Opera Theatre. His productions at FIU include CosÏ fan tutte, Savitri and Dido and _neas. He also taught conducting at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
He received his bachelor’s degree in piano performance from Fredonia State College in Fredonia, NY, and his master’s degree in orchestral conducting from the Cleveland Institute of Music.
